AUSTIN CITY, MN - It took two votes by the Austin City Council and some peer pressure, but Austin and Mower County are moving ahead with negotiations for a jail and justice center at the Cook Farm industrial park. Mower County's preferred building site has been near the Austin Municipal Airport, while the council has pushed for a downtown police station, at least. The Cook Farm was proposed as a compromise site in the interest of keeping law enforcement together, but it wasn't until a joint meeting Tuesday at Riverland Community College that everyone agreed it could work.
