LANTUA ISLAND, HONG KONG - Eighty-one correctional officers conducted a special search operation in Shek Pik Prison (SPP) as part of Correctional Services Department (CSD) security procedures on individual institutions. Unauthorized articles, including self-made gambling paraphernalia, food and prison workshop materials, were seized from prison workshops, cells and activity rooms. Ninety-five suspected soccer betting notes were found, along with 8,000 cigarette packs, which were used for betting. Eleven prisoners were transferred from SPP to Stanley Prison for management purposes. "CSD staff members will spare no efforts to detect and clamp down any illicit activities inside penal institutions. Two similar operations were also mounted in other institutions this year. We will continue our close monitoring of prisoners' activities," A CSD spokesperson said. |
