| Private prisons fined for staff shortages |

DENVER, CO - Six private prisons in the state were fined about $131,000 for failing to staff mandatory positions, the Colorado Department of Corrections said. It was the second time such penalties were levied since a riot broke out in 2004 at the Crowley County Correctional Facility and an audit exposed staffing problems at the prisons.
