LA to classify inmates in new scheme

LOS ANGELES, CA - Los Angeles sheriff's officials plan to meet today to discuss how to implement new housing and security regulations that call for classifying inmates based on how much trouble they're likely to cause.

Authorities say the plan to assign inmates one of nine security levels based on their arrest, conviction and incarceration histories is designed to streamline housing, and ultimately reduce violence in the jails. Read more.
