MOUNT PLEASANT, IA - Iowa prison officials have imposed new safeguards to prevent parole tampering after discovering a Mount Pleasant prison counselor allegedly accepted $100 cash in exchange for trying to help an inmate obtain an early parole. The ex-counselor left state employment in January after prison investigators determined he had changed state computer records to falsely show that one male inmate had completed a prison treatment program, improving the inmate's chance for parole, said Fred Scaletta, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Corrections.
