David Elliott is the new superintendent at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm. He will oversee the administration, operations and public safety of the 200-staff minimum security prison that currently holds approximately 570 adult males. He began his career in 1981 as a CO at the now-closed Creswell Correctional Center, and advanced at various northeastern North Carolina prisons until he became assistant superintendent in 1996 at the former Currituck Correctional Center. He was acting superintendent for that facility from 1999-2000, and then transferred to Gate Correctional Center in July 2000 as the assistant superintendent. In 2000, he became assistant superintendent for programs at Hyde Correction Institution. “I really enjoy the challenge of training staff and challenging them to be the best they can be,” he says. Elliott succeeds Renoice Stancill, who became Greene Correctional Institution's superintendent. Before working in corrections, Elliott served two years in the U.S. Army and then earned a bachelor of science degree at Elizabeth City State University. He and his wife, Marva, have three children. |
