LOS ANGELES, CA - In his nine-year career at California's most notorious youth prison, correctional counselor Darryl Willoughby has been punched and kicked just trying to keep the peace in basketball games. He has quelled riots, been doused with urine and often headed home in a cloud of pepper spray. Today, with violent incidents down by more than 75 percent, Willoughby finally can spend time counseling the young men under his watch listening to their insecurities, discussing how to pick a girlfriend and helping them check the impulses that led them to commit crimes ranging from molestation to murder.
