OLYMPIA, WA For years, some of the most expensive phone calls in the state have come from the phones installed inside Washington's prisons. A 20-minute call from Airway Heights to a relative in Tacoma? Nearly $22. That changes today. After years of bitter complaining by the families of prison inmates, some of them working extra jobs to help pay the cost of hearing a loved one's voice, Washington's Department of Corrections today launched new phone rates at every prison in the state.
