INDIA - Instead of monitoring the ban on mobile phones inside prisons, government authorities are directing cell phone service providers to install jammers, or "face prosecution". The latest is a letter from the Director General of Police (Prisons) Haryana, addressed to mobile operators like Bharti, Idea Cellular, Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications, asking them to send "action taken report" on installing jammers in jails across the state.
