DEER LODGE, MT Gov. Brian Schweitzer received applause at the recent Powell County chamber banquet with his proposal to increase the Department of Corrections budget by $40 million. This includes a 3.6-percent salary increase for corrections employees for the next two years. He described Montana as inside the “cowboy boot” Billings to the Flathead, to Hamilton the fastest growing economy in the country, and outside of the boot eastern Montana. Read more.
