AULT, CO - The state Department of Corrections is seeking $500 million to build new prisons for more than 5,000 more inmates over the next five years. The request for new spending is being driven by a huge increase in prisoners and rising financial demands from private prisons. One, the Geo Group, is demanding a $1 billion revenue guarantee before going ahead with two prisons that it is under contract to build for Colorado in Pueblo and Ault. Read more.
