JEFFERSONVILLE, IN - Inmates at the Clark County Jail will still have heat now that the county has paid an overdue gas bill for nearly $15,000. The utility company warned the county last month that it would cut off service to the jail if a $14,850 bill were not paid. It was one of several unpaid bills that Commissioners Ed Meyer and Ralph Guthrie said earlier this month the county had no money to pay. In all, the county was concerned about $150,000 in unpaid bills, Meyer said Wednesday. The jail gas bill was the most urgent because of the cutoff notice. Read more.
