District Attorney Stephen Zappala announced felony charges Wednesday against six male Allegheny County (Pa.) Jail officers who allegedly traded drugs for sex with female inmates.
Roy Baldinger, Darrell Hill, Donald Stupka, Regis Veatch, William Woznichak and Charles Miller, Sr., are accused of institutional sexual assault. Miller was the only one of the six not in custody Wednesday evening.
Four officers were arrested on the same charge last month. Two of them, Joseph Addison and LeShawn Walker, were arrested again Wednesday on additional charges.
Institutional sexual assault is considered a crime even if the alleged victims were willing participants, Channel 4's Shiba Russell reported.
According to indictments, 24 female inmates were supplied with heroin, marijuana, crack, Vicodin, Percocet or cigarettes in exchange for having sexual encounters with the suspects. Some of the alleged incidents happened as far back as 1995, Zappala said.
All 10 suspects have been suspended without pay, Russell reported.
Jail officials told Russell that other employees are working overtime to fill holes in the schedule.
