Undercover narcotics agents arrested a South Carolina Department of Corrections officer near a North school Wednesday for attempting to transport illegal narcotics into prisons. A multi-agency task force arrested Jeremy Levon Williams, 24, and charged the Thompson, Ga., man with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within proximity of a school, contraband violation and misconduct in office. At the time of his arrest, Williams was an employee of the Allendale Correctional Institute in Allendale County. Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, agents with the State Law Enforcement Division, the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Department of Corrections met with a subject near North High School. Agents conducting the reverse-sting operation posed as citizens attempting to send contraband to inmates at correctional facilities. A warrant states that Williams was charged after "he did knowingly and intentionally take possession of marijuana and cell phone to deliver to an inmate of the S.C. Department of Corrections." |
