CRANSTON, R.I. – The RIDOC's latest group of graduates from the Correctional Officer Training Academy Class 75 represented the largest class of women to date, with 25 percent of females making up the group. Fifty-two males and seventeen females, with 28 percent of the class representing minority groups, participated in graduation ceremonies in December.

Sixty-nine of the 80 men and women who began the program completed the Academy's rigorous nine-week schedule, which included CPR certification, weapons qualification, communications skills, weekly exams, and classroom time that explored topics like how the law relates to a CO's job. Currently, the graduates are completing the second phase of their training, which involves shadowing more senior officers.
