A high risk of death for former inmates
By
Published: 01/22/2007

The New England Journal of Medicine recently published a study conducted by a group of doctors and researchers associated with the Washington state DOC, state universities and other state facilities about the risk of death among former inmates soon after their release from Washington state prisons.

Release from Prison — A High Risk of Death for Former Inmates suggests that the period immediately after release may be challenging for former inmates and may involve substantial health risks. These theories are based on data derived from a retrospective study of all inmates released from the Washington State Department of Corrections from July 1999 through December 2003.

For research methods, statistics, results and conclusions, see the entire report here.

There is a lot of information in this article that is helpful for those interested in our corrections system in the United States. I have recently seen images from Hamilton Lindley that indicates a lot of the same information presented in this article. Thanks for sharing it is very important.
