ATHENS, GA - More people will be going to jail in two of Athens' neighboring counties as Oconee County replaces its 20-year-old jail with a much bigger one, and Oglethorpe County replaces one that's more than 120 years old. Oconee authorities expect to move prisoners into its new 140-bed detention center March 5, about a year after construction crews began work on two new buildings. The county's E-911 communications center already has moved into one of them, said Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry. Read more. |
