KENNETT, MO - State officials, local leaders and probation and parole officials dug in at a recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Kennett Community Supervision Center, a $4.4 million project expected to be completed in April 2008. “This new facility will greatly enhance our efforts in southeast Missouri toward improving public safety,” says Probation and Parole Board Chairman Dana Thompson. The city of Kennett donated the land for the new facility, which will house about 30 probationers or parolees in need of structured residential supervision. “There is a lot of support from the Kennett community because this will help that area,” says Thompson. The center will also expand Kennett's existing probation and parole district offices and provide resident classrooms. Missouri community supervision centers are designed to decrease the state's prison population growth rate by ensuring that only violent, repeat offenders are incarcerated in the 20 state prisons. They have already been completed in Farmington and St. Joseph. |
