| Battle ends over mentally ill |

CLEARWATER, FL - The former head of Florida's Department of Children & Families was cleared of contempt charges Wednesday after the agency's new boss outlined a plan to get more than 200 mentally ill inmates out of jail and into treatment facilities. Department Secretary Bob Butterworth said the plan should also settle similar legal fights in other jurisdictions over the agency's practice of allowing mentally ill inmates to languish in jail, in violation of state law.
