| HIV testing clears legal hurdle |

HOUSTON, TX - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott cleared the way Thursday for mandatory HIV and AIDS testing of people entering the state prison system, although the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has no immediate plans to enact such a policy. State Sen. Rodney Ellis asked for the opinion in August, saying then that he would file a bill to require testing for incoming prisoners if Abbott decided it wasn't already mandatory. Read more.
