NZ officers oppose needles

NEW ZEALAND - Prison officers say they are strongly opposed to any attempt to set up needle exchanges within prisons. The Drug Foundation is calling for the exchanges, following evidence of intravenous drug use in jail.

Chief executive Ross Bell says prisoners are at risk of contracting HIV or hepatitis C, and need access to clean injecting equipment in the form of a needle exchange for supervised injecting. Read more.
