Indianapolis, IN Indiana Department of Correction Commissioner J. David Donahue appointed Zettie R. Cotton as the new superintendent of the Indiana Women's Prison. Cotton will take over on March 12, 2007 for Chris Meloy, who has become the newly-appointed Indiana Parole Board Chairman. The 33-year veteran recently was Assistant Superintendent of the Indianapolis Juvenile Correctional Facility managing the day-to-day operations for 240 juveniles. “Ms. Cotton has demonstrated excellent leadership qualities and a strong commitment to the Indiana Department of Correction,” say Donahue. “She is a natural fit at the Indiana Women's Prison with her expertise in programming and operations.” Cotton began her career in 1974 as a CO at the former Indiana Girls' School. Through the years she gained a broad range of expertise in management, juvenile management, custody, programs, and adult male and female facility operations. She was also an assistant superintendent at IWP, Putnamville, Reception-Diagnostic Center, and a superintendent at Pendleton and the Indianapolis Men's Work Release Center. She also was on the audit development team. “Zettie is a passionate, driven correctional professional with a diverse portfolio. I am confident that her management style will elevate the programming opportunities for female offenders,” adds Donahue. Cotton has a BA in psychology from Indiana University and a Master's degree in education, guidance and counseling at IUPUI. The Indiana Women's Prison is a maximum security facility that houses 440 female inmates. |
