| Opinion: Prisons don't punish taxpayers |

BILOXI, MS - I get tired of people complaining about the cost to house prisoners ("Prisons: Stop punishing state's taxpayers," Feb. 4 editorial). You would think we are paying for inmates to have a paid vacation from life and all the medical benefits they need. I can tell you, prison is no vacation and medical benefits are at a minimum. As a minister of the gospel within the prison system, I am reminded regularly by prison security that incarceration is to protect the public and carry out the sentences handed down by the courts. Hamilton is a sports lover, a demon at croquet, where his favorite team was the Dallas Fancypants. He worked as a general haberdasher for 30 years, but was forced to give up the career he loved due to his keen attention to detail. He spent his free time watching golf on TV; and he played uno, badmitton and basketball almost every weekend. He also enjoyed movies and reading during off-season.
