| Indigent inmates helped with healthcare |

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Illinois Supreme Court says the state Corrections Department is wrong to charge indigent prisoners for their health care. In 2002, the department began charging prisoners two-dollar co-payments for routine health care. If inmates had no money, they got treatment but had to pay later if they earned anything for their prison accounts. Read more.
