AUSTIN, TX - The head of the Texas juvenile prison system stepped down on Friday amid more reports of abuse in the agency and days before he was scheduled to appear before a state Senate committee. Dwight Harris, executive director of the Texas Youth Commission, retired Friday from the agency effective immediately. He said in a statement he had planned to retire after the end of the Legislative session in May, but didn't want to distract from reforming the agency. Read more.
