| New community program to open |

LIMESTONE, AL - Limestone joined 37 other counties in the state in opening a Community Corrections Program to help alleviate prison overcrowding and help inmates support families while they serve sentences. Prison Commissioner Richard Allen helped cut the ribbon Tuesday on a renovated former grocery store off South Jefferson Street that is housing the program. Allen said he expects “great things” from the program that is one of the measures the state is employing to stem the growth of prison population, which increases by an average 119 inmates each month.
