| Agency changes not easily accepted |

SEATTLE, WA - During the past six months, Corrections Secretary Harold Clarke has been under increasing fire for his oversight of the massive state agency, one that has been the target of a blizzard of lawsuits costing the state more than $31 million in the past five years. Clarke's own two-year tenure hasn't been much smoother. During the last three months of 2006, three felons under state supervision were responsible for the deaths of two Seattle police officers and a King County sheriff's deputy. Soon after that, the department began investigating a Seattle work-release program where six employees have been accused of falsifying drug tests or engaging in inappropriate relations with convicts.
