An inmate has escaped from the Pickens County (S.C.) Prison, the third in the past two weeks. Jeffery Paul Williamson, 33, who had three months left to go of a six-month sentence for failing to pay child support, disappeared from the jail early Tuesday, authorities said. Prison officer John James said officers saw Williamson leave the prison with a group of inmates assigned to the work-release program. They also noticed "an unidentified car's tail lights turning onto the road in front of the prison grounds." The prison is located northwest of Pickens and is a separate facility from the Pickens County Detention Center. It can hold up to 100 inmates who have been convicted of non-violent crimes. Two to three officers work at the prison and it is not fenced in, James said. Two inmates, who escaped Feb. 15 when they went to the prison's chapel for a service and did not return, were arrested a couple of days later at an apartment in Pickens. Williamson was booked at the prison in December 2003. He is described as a white male weighing about 178 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. |
