| FL shakes up prison |

TALLAHASSEE, FL - The state prison system fired a colonel and relieved the warden and a top assistant at Hendry Correctional Institution on Wednesday because of an alleged inmate beating that earlier cost four correctional officers their jobs. Department of Corrections Secretary Jim McDonough promoted an assistant warden to take over the prison near Immokalee and assigned two colonels from Santa Rosa and Okeechobee Correctional Institutions to improve security and operations there. Department spokesman Robby Cunningham said further transfers, demotions or ousters might be result from the continuing investigation. Read more.
