| Report finds better prison controls |

SACRAMENTO, CA - Some are still known on occasion to rough up inmates, smuggle drugs into their places of work and even have sex with the women and men in their custody. But to the extent there is wrongdoing in the ranks of prison cops and other correctional employees, the state agency that employs them is doing a much better job these days of rooting it out. In its third semiannual report, the office that monitors internal investigations in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation concluded that the agency's self-policing has vastly improved over the past three years.Read more.
