KERN COUNTY, CA - The rigorous academy consisted of more than 200 hours of recruit-level academy instruction. Major training areas included juvenile inmate classification and care, cultural diversity, arrest and control techniques, indicators of gang affiliation, contraband recognition, indicators of substance abuse, and roles and responsibilities of the Juvenile Corrections Officer. The training is certified by the Corrections Standards Authority as mandated by California State Law, and includes a combination of classroom, practical application, and physical training. In addition, the Juvenile Corrections Officers are given on-the-job training in the security, custody, care, and counseling of wards of the court. Read more.
