PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Luzerne County Correctional Facility typically houses four or five pregnant inmates, and until last week, a county inmate had never had an abortion while incarcerated, Warden Gene Fischi said. Prison officials said they reluctantly took an inmate to Philadelphia to grant her request for an abortion last week, and the prison is paying for the $2,000 procedure. Read more.
