| Heightened security urged for CA jail |

MILPITAS, CA - A grand jury blasted the security measures at a county jail where four people escaped in the span of two months last year and said conditions will worsen if long-overdue improvements aren't made soon. The Santa Clara County civil grand jury said in a report issued Wednesday that the Elmwood jail in Milpitas is a "security sieve" that needs better lighting, surveillance cameras and repairs to barracks that are currently not locked at night but could be if they were brought up to minimum fire codes.
