LOS ANGELES, CA - A man who helped kill a Los Angeles police officer in an onion field outside Bakersfield more than 40 years ago has died in prison, it was reported Sunday. Jimmy Lee Smith, 76, died Friday of a heart attack in Pritchess Detention Center in Castaic, the Los Angeles Times reported. Smith was in prison on a parole violation. Read more.
