AUSTRALIA - The Corrections Department is being accused of running a "con air" style operation - hiring charter planes to transport prisoners around the country. National has released figures showing the department spent $1.13 million on prison travel in the last financial year - nearly $100,000 a month. MP Simon Power says it shows a lack of planning by the department and calls it a waste of taxpayer money. He thinks prisoners should be transported by bus. |
