MACOMB COUNTY, MI - A Macomb County program that keeps troubled mentally ill people out of jail and out of trouble has earned a place on the national stage, where it will be singled out as one of the best programs of its kind in the country. Two representatives from the National Association of Counties visited the county jail Wednesday to get a first-hand look at the model program, which diverts more than 100 inmates per year into mental health treatment. The program will be among six featured in a publication distributed this summer by NACo and the U.S. Department of Justice to officials across the nation. Read more.
