NEW ZEALAND - The Corrections Department decision not to isolate a Paremoremo prisoner who has hepatitis B has prison officers worried for their own health. The Corrections Department yesterday said about 40 Paremoremo guards and inmates would have Hepatitis B testing after an inmate was diagnosed with the disease. But department assistant general manager women's and specialist services Bridget White said the risk of infection to others was believed to be low, and the affected inmate would not be isolated, although precautions were being taken.
