PROVIDENCE, RI Ashbel Wall, 53, has been reconfirmed as Rhode Island Department of Corrections Director. Wall has been a top prison administrator since 1987, and has been RIDOC Director since 2000. In 1976, he became a Connecticut probation officer and then moved on to become an Assistant District Attorney in New York City until 1981. He also oversaw the Manhattan Community Service Sentencing Project, and in 1985 he became a policy analyst for Rhode Island Governor Edward DiPrete. Wall will be paid $142,609 a year to head the RIDOC, which has a $178-million budget and about 1,600 employees who oversee 3,700 inmates and 27,000 offenders on probation or parole. Wall received degrees from Yale University and Yale Law School. |
