MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ - The fees that cities and towns pay to book inmates at the Maricopa County jails are increasing 16 percent, and at least two Valley police departments say the hikes could cause them to rethink how they handle some people who commit low-level crimes. Several Valley police departments also are frustrated that the county did not involve them in the decision to raise the prices, and said they'll have to rework and reallocate their budgets.
