| New strategic initiatives implementation director for Georgia |

Patricia Smith with Corrections Division Director, Arnie DePetro (left) and Commissioner James Donald.Patricia Smith recently became Director of Strategic Initiatives Implementation for the Georgia Department of Corrections. In her new role, which became effective, April 16th, she will coordinate and synchronize major GADOC projects, including training, relocation, medical, IT transformation, staff education and housing initiatives. “Patricia Smith has been an exceptional leader throughout her career,” says Corrections Commissioner James E. Donald. “She has a deep commitment and passion for corrections and has been very successful in contributing to our mission across the state.” Smith began her career in 1986 as a Central DeKalb probation office accounting clerk. She then served in several probation officer positions at the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit. In 2006, the Atlanta native became a field operations manager and oversaw 26 judicial circuits in north and central Georgia. Smith also was president of the Georgia Probation Association and the Georgia Correctional Association. In December 2006, she received her master's degree in public administration from Columbus State University. Smith has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia State University. As the fifth largest prison system in the U.S., the GADOC supervises more than 60,000 inmates and 140,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with nearly 15,000 employees. |
