DES MOINES, IA - John Baldwin, a state prison administrator for the past three decades, was appointed Wednesday by Gov. Chet Culver as director of the Iowa Department of Corrections. Baldwin, 57, a Fort Dodge native, has been acting corrections director since Gary Maynard resigned in January to become Maryland's secretary of public safety and correctional services. Baldwin has been a state prison employee since 1977, and has been deputy director for administration since 1983. Read more.
