BENNINGTON, VT - A local legislator believes he has a plan to curtail the ever-rising cost of corrections and even save the state a few million dollars. State officials have been struggling with how to address cost increases associated with housing inmates. Sen. Dick Sears, D-Bennington, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, says that by shifting inmates to different facilities and sending more inmates to out-of-state facilities, the state could save about $4 million from the Department of Corrections' $128 million budget.
