DES MOINES, IA - John Baldwin is the new Iowa Department of Corrections Director. He will oversee approximately 8,900 inmates in nine state prisons and about 30,000 community corrections offender on parole, probation and work-release. Baldwin, 57, has been acting corrections director since Gary Maynard resigned in January. He has been a state prison administrator for the past three decades and has been a state prison employee since 1977. Since 1983, he has been an IADOC deputy director. Baldwin has been paid $117,235 annually as deputy director; his new salary wasn't immediately available. The IADOC has an annual operating budget of about $335 million and almost 4,400 employees. CAMP HILL, PA - Twelve-year PADOC veteran, Kathleen Gnall, has become the agency's deputy secretary for reentry and specialized programs. She will manage inmate assessment and treatment programs, inmate education and vocational training, the community corrections system, victim services, and the grants program. "Kathleen Gnall has shown her commitment to the profession with her extensive knowledge and participation in numerous initiatives that have improved the department's evidence-based policies and programs," said Corrections Secretary Jeffrey A. Beard in a statement. “Her experience and expertise will continue to be assets as she oversees programs designed to prepare inmates for their eventual release and reintegration into society." Gnall began her career in 1995 as the executive assistant to the Secretary of Corrections. In 1998, she became the director for the PADOC's office of planning, research, statistics and grants. She was a policy director in 2005, and then became acting director of programs and reentry in 2006. Gnall received her Bachelor of Arts in politics from De Sales University and a Master of Arts in government from Lehigh University. In 1994, she participated in a postgraduate internship program that let her work at various state agencies and exposed her to the development, implementation and evaluation of public policy. |
