WALTHAM, MA - Overcrowding at county jails in the area is reaching dangerous levels, but fixing the problem could cost hundreds of millions of dollars, officials warned last week. With some facilities housing almost twice as many inmates as they were designed for, law enforcement officials including Worcester County Sheriff Guy Glodis say it's time for the state to commit funds to improve conditions.
