| Training for women's issues |

DES MOINES, IA - A team from the Iowa Department of Corrections has been selected to attend a one-week training session with the National Institute of Corrections. Department deputy director, Jeanette Bucklew, says they'll be trained to deal with issues facing women prisoners. Bucklew says that includes: antiquated and inadequate facilities, gender responsive policies, programs on custody classification and disciplinary policies, adequate re-entry programming for female offenders. Bucklew says the training is part of a focus on womens' issues included in the recently released prison study. She says the work will align directly with the prison study recommendations on women prisoners. The Iowa group will attend the training in Oklahoma in June. |
