| Judge orders air conditioners |

LANSING, MI - "We have presented various options such as tinting windows, installing awnings, dehumidifying," said Michigan Department of Corrections Spokesperson Russ Marlin. All of those options were rejected by a U.S. District Judge. Judge Richard Enslen ordered for Michigan's DOC to put air conditioning in the Southern Correctional Facility in Jackson by the beginning of the Summer. "The prisoners that occupy these facilities are primarily prisoners with some medical issues," said Marlin. "They may be on medication, or they could have a chronic illness." Governor Granholm originally ordered the prison to be closed in July of this year in order to reduce $92 million of the Michigan Department of Corrections $1.9 billion annual budget.
