Al Parke, an eight-year Indiana Department of Correction veteran and recent superintendent of the Putnamville Correctional Facility, will become the INDOC’s new southern regional director on May 27, 2007. Michael J. Osburn will take over for Parke, who managed Putnamville since 1999, as the facility’s superintendent.“Parke's passion and competitive drive have made him a successful leader in many jurisdictions,” says INDOC Commissioner J. David. Donahue. “His energy is relentless and he is well-respected by his peers. His excellence in correctional management and leadership roles in over five states has been remarkable.” Donahue says Osburn brings to the INDOC a wide range of professional and military experience and achievements. “His leadership skills and strong work ethic will serve the facility well,” Donahue adds. “Osburn is a natural fit for this role. I have the utmost confidence that he will excel in his new capacity as well as enhance facility management standards.” Parke began his career as Kentucky’s Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Programs and Classification in 1970. He was warden in eight institutions throughout Oklahoma, Kentucky, Colorado, New Mexico, and finally, Indiana. Under his leadership, the Putnamville Correctional Facility, which opened in 1914 gained recognition for its innovative farm and thoroughbred programs. Osburn has been with the INDOC since 1992, and has been a staff supervisor, custody supervisor, facility staff development coordinator and correctional major. He also served as the first Special Operations Response Team (SERT) Commander for three years. Most recently, he was Assistant Superintendent at the Miami Correctional Facility. Osburn also is a Colonel of the military’s 81st Troop Command. Parke has Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology from Eastern Kentucky University. Osburn holds a Master’s of Science in Management and a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Resource Management from Oakland City University. |
