TUSCALOOSA, AL - The Tuscaloosa County Jail is first in the state to install an automatic deposit machine to reduce the amount of money being handled within the jail. Inside the jail's front lobby stands what looks like a new ATM, but instead it is a machine that allows people to use their Visa, MasterCard or cash to deposit money into a commissary account for a person who is in jail. People who are in jail can buy items like shampoo, soap and cigarettes through the commissary. Tuscaloosa County is the first county in the state to operate an automatic deposit machine in the jail, said Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ted Sexton said. Read more.
