Executioners need identity shielded

ST. LOUIS, MO - A bill before Gov. Matt Blunt that would shield the identity of executioners and their support team is needed to protect them from retaliation, according to the Department of Corrections.

The bill would allow the media, or anyone else who discloses the identities of those involved in executions, to be sued. And that has opponents concerned that protection for executioners comes at the cost of First Amendment freedoms and the public's right to oversee government employees. Read more.
