SANTA MARIA, CA - Plans for modifying a small jail at the Santa Maria sheriff's substation - so inmates can be kept there longer, to slightly ease overcrowding at the main jail near Goleta - were unanimously approved Tuesday by county supervisors. The structural modifications, estimated to cost about $25,000, were part of an “administrative agenda” with dozens of unrelated items collectively passed in one motion without discussion. Read more.
